Signs of an Emergency

If your pet gets injured or shows signs of severe medical distress seek emergency vet care. Some common signs of a pet medical emergency include:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea for a period of 24 hours or more
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Prolonged disorientation
  • Unconsciousness or inability to stand
  • Hard or swollen abdomen
  • Weak heartbeat
  • Seizures
  • Blood in the pet's vomit, urine, or feces

Ingesting poisonous substances is a common cause of pet emergencies. If at any time you believe your pet has swallowed a toxic substance or object, call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435!
